About Us

Rachel Hogarth
I am a chartered member of the CIPD and have been supporting construction companies with their training activities for over 15 years. Much of my experience was gained as Company Development Adviser for CITB, providing business support services and advising employers on grant recovery. I have also worked for a number of contractors directly (Bowey Group, Mansell Construction Services NE and Balfour Beatty) in a variety of HR and training roles. During my time at Mansell I increased grant recovery from £5k per annum to in excess of £130k, set up and maintained their training records and compiled their annual training plans. I also co-ordinated all of their training activities, including apprenticeships, work placements and graduate training schemes. Much of my time now is spent bid writing, securing funding for construction companies of all sizes, to help them source and secure the skills, qualifications and training their workforce needs to help achieve business growth and development. We have recently written a number of bids which secured over £300,000  of funding to help address to address the issue of Productivity in the Construction Sector. We are now involved with project managing these initiatives that exist to research, design, test and evaluate innovative new training solutions aimed at reducing the volume and cost of error in the industry.
I am currently studying for my Masters In Employment Law and am researching the complex issue of worker status in the Construction Industry.

I have over 15 years experience supporting construction companies with their training activities, predominantly through my role as Training Co-ordinator for the North East Contractors Training Group, which now has 58 members. For over 5 years now, I have been supporting a growing number of contractors with their CITB grant claims, training matrices, training plans and training records. Over the last couple of years, we have written over 50 Skills and Training funding bids for construction employers across the UK, securing over £200,000 via this route alone.

We have now secured additional funding for the Contractors Training Group which will allow us to deliver the following added value support to our members during 2018-2019:

  • Careers events to promote construction and secure high quality applicants for the 18-19 academic year
  • Support for developing supervisors and managers (NVQs and SSP qualifications can be funded @ 50% of usual cost for many members)
  • Delivery of business support, training needs analysis and assistance with bid writing to secure up front funding for training.

I have recently achieved by CIPD level 5 in Human Resources Management and specialise in employee engagement. We now support a number of Construction Companies with getting their contracts of employment and basic employment policies and procedures right, to minimise the risk of any employment claims. Ongoing advice and project work is also available.
